The University of Oklahoma soccer team lost 3-0 to Texas in the Big 12 Conference Championship quarterfinals Wednesday.

The fifth-seeded Sooners (7-9-4) were blanked by the fourth-seeded Longhorns (8-10-1) for the second time in 2012. Texas posted a 1-0 triumph over OU on Sept. 23 in Norman.

Oklahoma, which made its eighth Big 12 Championship appearance, fell to 3-7-1 all-time in conference tournament action -- including 2-1 against Texas.

UT outshot OU, 13-5, and the Sooners could not capitalize on four corner opportunities.

Neither side refused to give an inch in the opening 24 minutes of play, but the Longhorns caught a break in the 25th minute when an own goal by Oklahoma gave Texas a 1-0 edge.

The Longhorns increased their advantage to two goals just under three minutes later when Kelsey Shimmick converted from 14 yards out thanks to assists from Chantale Campbell and Hannah Higgins.

Texas kept Oklahoma's attack at bay for the next 53 minutes of play, and Shimmick put the contest out of reach in the 81st minute with her second goal of the match off a breakaway pass from Emilie Campbell.

Senior goalkeeper Kelsey Devonshire made five saves for the Sooners, increasing her career total to 390 -- the most in the 16-year history of the OU program.

First-year head coach Matt Potter's seven victories in 2012 rank as the most by a rookie head coach in OU history.
