Golden Hurricane defensive end Cory Dorris was named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week in a vote of league media members.
Dorris, a 6'4", 260-pound senior, came up big for the Golden Hurricane in a 41-7 victory over Houston on Saturday. He registered six tackles, two of which were quarterback sacks that totaled 16 yards of lost yardage. He was on the receiving end of two of Houston's four turnovers. Dorris recovered Houston's lone fumble and intercepted his first career pass, which he returned 22 yards for a touchdown.
The Tulsa defense shut down a Houston offense that was ranked sixth in the nation in passing, holding the Cougars to 184 passing yards and 78 rushing yards for a season-low 262 total yards.
The weekly honor is the first in Dorris' career and also the third time this season that a Tulsa defender has won the weekly honor. Safety Dexter McCoil and linebacker DeAundre Brown were Tulsa's previous two honorees this season.
