Anderson Shines As Pokes Roll Texas Tech

STILLWATER, Oklahoma -

Oklahoma State had 18 seniors who walked onto the Boone Pickens Stadium turf for the final time on Saturday afternoon, but perhaps none will remember their final game in Payne County more fondly than Isaiah Anderson.

Anderson was wide open streaking down the field in the first quarter and Clint Chelf launched the ball downfield for a sure touchdown. Anderson dropped the ball. But he didn't hang his head and the Cowboy coaching staff went right back to the senior wide receiver – multiple times.

Anderson hauled in touchdown receptions of 60, 33 and 66 yards in the second quarter to spearhead Oklahoma State's dominating 59-21 victory against No. 23 Texas Tech.

Anderson finished with a career best 174 yards on four catches and chipped in a 26-yard run for good measure.

"This is the best feeling in the world, to do it in front of my home crowd and have my family here to support me," Anderson said.

But he was just one of the major storylines to develop from arguably the Pokes most complete team performance of the season.

The offense rolled, the defense forced three turnovers and sacked Tech quarterback Seth Doege three times, and the special teams blocked two punts while Quinn Sharp tied a career-best with a 51-yard field goal.

Raider coach Tommy Tubberville summed it up succinctly after the game.

"We ran into a buzzsaw."

Chelf earned his second straight start under center for the Cowboys, completing 11-of-21 passes for 229 yards and three scores. He also ran the ball four times for 40 yards. OSU's coaches also worked one-time starter J.W. Walsh back into the QB rotation in certain packages. Walsh finished 1-for-1 passing for a 2-yard touchdown to Kye Staley on OSU's opening possession. Walsh also ran for a score on a designed quarterback run in the second quarter to give OSU a 28-7 lead.

Tech tied the game at 7-7 three seconds into the second quarter but then Oklahoma State took over in every facet of the game. The Pokes poured in 28 consecutive points to take a commanding 35-7 lead before the Red Raiders chipped in a late touchdown to trail 35-14 at halftime.

OSU struck first in the third quarter on a 17-yard touchdown scamper from running back Jeremy Smith on a drive set up by OSU defensive tackle James Castleman's interception of Doege. The Pokes followed it up later in the quarter with Sharp's 51-yard field goal and a 1-yard scoring dive by Joseph Randle.

In the third quarter, OSU boosted its lead by 17 points without completing a single pass.

One of the key reasons for that was a dominating performance from the OSU defense, which has started to show its ball-hawking ways of last season in recent weeks. In addition to Castleman's interception, the Pokes also got a pick from safety Shamiel Gary and a fumble recovery by linebacker Lyndell Johnson.

The Cowboys' front four put constant pressure on Tech's offense and never allowed it to establish a rhythm, which is becoming a trend for the Cowboys. OSU forced Tech into eight penalties and eight punts, while also limiting the nation's 10th ranked offense to 383 total yards, 124 yards below its average.

The Cowboys scored just once in the fourth quarter after most of the starters had retired to the bench but it came in exciting fashion. Safety Zack Craig blocked his second Red Raider punt of the day and returned it 30-yards for the Pokes' final score.

With the victory, Oklahoma State improved to 7-3 on the season and 5-2 in conference play. Texas Tech dropped to 7-4 and 4-4 in the Big 12.

The 24th-ranked Cowboys head to Norman next Saturday for a 2:30 p.m. showdown with rival Oklahoma.
