Thieves stole home decor worth more than $25,000 from a Bixby home, which is for sale.

Builders are used to people stealing kitchen cabinets, windows and appliances from newly built homes, but this case is so unusual, because it was such a large haul.

"There was two pewter lamps with silk shades, tapestries—just loaded," said Rob Brewer, with Spartan Construction.

It's hard to grasp the magnitude of this theft.

"Nice rug in here with two chairs, all the knick knacks on the shelves," Brewer said, listing off all of the items that were stolen.

Throughout the 5,000 sq. ft. home, smaller pieces of furniture and decorations were taken, shelves were left bare.

"They took the bed spread, bedding, end tables, chair here and a table," Brewer said.

The thieves seemed to have left behind only the really heavy and big stuff, but not for a lack of trying.

In the master bedroom, they had the bed and armoire taken apart and the mattresses up against the wall, like they planned to come back for them.

"I think they loaded up everything small first, got scared off or tired or ran out of time. They left the couch and anything big, they weren't messing with," Brewer said.

Brewer said decorating a home is a huge expense and takes a lot of time and effort, but that it helps the house sell better.

There's an alarm, but it was shut off last Wednesday night to allow some potential buyers inside.

Brewer said he believes the thieves had been there before.

"Had to be an inside job, had to know it was here, came through the house, a worker, during the day, unlocked the windows and came back," Brewer said.

He said he believes they hit Thanksgiving night - knowing many people would be gone - and backed truck after truck into the garage, which was filled with enough furniture for a whole separate house. Most of it is gone, too, along with two boxes his wife was storing there, containing brand new wash bowls for a salon she is opening at 91st and Yale.

Altogether, Brewer said it amounted to a loss of more than $25,000.

"I'd like to see them get caught, go to jail," Brewer said.

He and his wife have been scouring flea markets looking for the stolen items and he's putting up a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of the thieves.

Anyone with information can call Bixby Police or Crime Stoppers at 918-596-COPS.
