Native American tribes concerned about the so-called "fiscal cliff" met with President Obama Wednesday.

Leaders from more than 500 tribes met in Washington, where the President pledged to keep working on a compromise with Congressional Republicans.

If no deal is struck by the end of the year, funding for critical Native American programs could run out.

"I was committed to getting this relationship right, so that your nations can be full partners in our economy and your children can have a fair shot at pursuing the American dream," said President Barack Obama.

A congressional aide says the President also talked by phone Wednesday with Republican Speaker John Boehner, but no one's saying if the two sides are closer to a compromise.
