POTTAWATOMIE COUNTY, Oklahoma - The suspect in the kidnapping and murder of an 18-year-old man from Ada, is arraigned Friday in Pottawatomie County.

18-year-old Jeremy Murray is accused of killing his college classmate, 18-year old Genarro Sanchez early Thursday morning.

An affidavit released by the Pottawatomie County sheriff details exactly what happened on the day of the murder, and in it, Murray confesses to the killing of his East Central University classmate.

In the chilling affidavit, Murray was asked by the responding sheriff's deputy why he would be looking for him, he said, "Because of the guy I shot, and put in the ditch on Substation Rd."

Thursday morning, Murray told police he asked his college classmate, Genarro Sanchez for a ride to Walmart. He offered him $20, and they left in the victims truck. Soon after that, Murray told police, he shot and killed Sanchez, shooting him twice in the head.

"What's disturbing is the motive, or lack thereof. This was a random act against a random person. I watched the interview and it was chilling. In my 22 years, certain people scare me, and this man does," said Pottawatomie County District Attorney, Richard Smotherman.

Murray told police Sanchez was begging for him not to kill him as they were driving east on Substation Rd., now at about 10 miles per hour. He says he pointed the gun at Sanchez the first time, shot, and missed. The second time, Sanchez was hit on the right side of his head. Once the truck stopped, Murray says he pushed Sanchez out, and shot him a second time.

"I've always tried to put myself in the shoes of the victim, and try to understand a little bit so that we aren't insensitive to what their situation is, we want them to know that we're doing everything that we can," said Pottawatomie County Sheriff, Mike Booth.

Smotherman says this was a premeditated murder.

"I think he knew exactly what he was doing. He planned it. He planned it for three weeks. He went and stole the gun that committed the crime," said Smotherman. "It was well thought out, I think his mental capacity was there."

Smotherman says the death penalty will be considered in this case. A preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 8th. Murray has been told to get an attorney.
