A 36-year old Independence, Kansas man is hospitalized after suffering a gunshot wound during what police are calling a home invasion Monday morning.

Independence Police say shortly after 8 a.m. two or three suspects forced their way into the man's home on North 16th Street and shot Anthony Trollope in the leg.

Trollope's mother was also in the home at the time but was not injured. Police say she ran across the street to another home and called 911. Police say the suspects were acquaintances with Trollope.

"We're trying to locate suspects at this time and the victim is in good condition at the hospital," says Independence Police Chief Harry Smith.

Smith says they've identified one suspect and attempting to locate the suspect and that suspect's red or maroon colored Pontiac Vibe.

An investigation into the shooting continues.
