A Sand Springs man convicted of the murder in the shooting death of a woman at a Tulsa park was sentenced to life in prison Monday.

Court records show James Earl Darton, 25, was sentenced to life in prison after he was convicted of first degree murder, possession of a firearm after a former felony conviction, and domestic assault and battery.

Kimberly Ragland, was found shot to death in a car at Heller Park, in the 5300 block of South Wheeling Avenue, on May 9, 2010.

Police said witnesses saw Darton and Ragland engaged in a "heated" and "physical" argument before the shooting. Witnesses told police the fight started as a domestic dispute, after a protective order was issued against Darton.

Court records show Darton received a sentence of life in prison without the possibility for parole for the murder charge, plus 30 years combined for the other two charges.
