New this evening, an Oklahoma lawmaker says communities should be able to decide what kind of security their schools need.

Representative Joe Dorman wants to change bond laws so districts can ask voters for money to pay for a security officer.

"Basically, we are giving communities the option to increase the safety of school districts, without the involvement of the state, should they decide they would like to have a resource officer in each building," said Dorman, D-Rush Springs.

Right now, schools can only ask for money to fund things like new buildings and equipment.
