OMAHA, Nebraska -

Avery Dingman came off the bench to score a career-high 21 points, hitting five three pointers to propel Creighton to a 71-54 win over the Tulsa Golden Hurricane Wednesday night.

The Golden Hurricane (6-5) returns to action Saturday when it renews the Mayor's Cup and the crosstown rivalry with Oral Roberts at 2 p.m. at the Mabee Center.

James Woodward led the Golden Hurricane in scoring, racking up 15 points for the game. Kauri Black tallied nine points and Scottie Haralson put up eight points for the Hurricane. Doug McDermott scored 16 points and Gregory Echenique added 15 points for the Bluejays (11-1).

Tulsa shot 38 percent for the game, while Creighton shot 52 percent from the field. TU outrebounded the Bluejays 35-28, including 11-5 on the offensive boards, but gave up 32 points off 25 turnovers.

"I thought Creighton came out tonight with a lot of energy," Tulsa head coach Danny Manning said. "They moved the ball well, they shot the ball well. They got off to a good start and it snowballed from there on us."

Tulsa played solid defense in the first half, holding Creighton to just 10 points in the first eight minutes.

The Golden Hurricane kept the game close early, but could not find its shooting stroke, and played seven and a half minutes without a field goal, while Creighton went on a 16-1 run that built a 24-8 lead. The Bluejays led 38-20 at the half.

Tulsa opened the second half on an 8-1 run that cut the deficit to 39-28, but a 14-1 run by Creighton made the score 53-31. A Woodward three, followed by a jumper and triple from Haralson pulled the Hurricane within 58-45 with 5:51 remaining. A 12-4 spurt brought the score to 71-49 before TU scored the final five points of the contest.
