OKLAHOMA CITY -

State legislative leaders announced they're creating a panel of experts that will make recommendations about school safety.

Lieutenant Governor Todd Lamb, a former secret service agent, will chair the committee made up of law enforcement officers, first responders, educators, and mental health experts.

The goal is for the panel to make recommendations to lawmakers during the next legislative session, which begins in February.

"That will be the primary goal of this commission, to assess and reassess in Oklahoma where we are with school security," Lamb said.

Governor Mary Fallin encouraged all schools to be proactive about security and have an emergency plan in place.
