FORT SMITH, Arkansas -

A 13-year-old girl from Wister, Okla., will be hand-delivering a special gift to families who lost children in the Newtown, Conn., school shooting.

Like much of the nation, Mary Stewart wanted the families of shooting victims to know they weren't grieving alone.

"We talked about raising some money and her immediate response was 'No, I don't want to do money. I would like to do some Precious Moments and see if we can get one for each family."

The Stewarts called the Precious Moments Chapel in Carthage, Mo., and the company's supporting foundation agreed to help.

Christmas figurines for each family cost $945, before tax, shipping and handling.

Mary and her mother rallied community support to raise the money needed to ship the ornaments to Newtown.

"It's really sad, because all of this happened," Mary said. "Then you have to come and get with all of these other people and decide what you want to do for these families who lost all of the children. And it's just…it's sad."

Inspired by the teen's compassion, a local bank in Wister decided to do its own fundraising to fly the Stewarts to Newtown so they could personally deliver the ornaments.

Mary and Kim left Sunday afternoon.

They'll make it to Newtown early Monday morning, just in time deliver the figurines to the families before Christmas.

"What an amazing gift that we've been given to be able to go and actually present however many Precious Moments to the families,"

"I was really happy I was going to get to deliver maybe one or two of the Precious Moments."

Newtown police will escort the Stewarts around town and introduce them to the families.

They'll fly back Monday night so they can spend Christmas Eve with their family in Wister.
