Oklahoma City street maintenance crews aren't waiting for the bad weather to arrive to treat roads across the metro. They're out this Christmas Eve, making sure streets are safe for drivers who plan to be out during the Christmas snow storm.

The winter storm is expected to begin moving across the state before 3 a.m. Christmas Day. There will be freezing rain and sleet at first, followed by a large amount of snow. The metro area could receive between six and eight inches of snow throughout the day.

The city has several crews out treating bridges and overpasses with salt brine. The mixture will help prevent surfaces from freezing quickly.

The city also plans to call in extra crews to work 12-hour shifts on Christmas. Street maintenance crews are on standby across the state, ready to plow roads and help holiday travelers arrive safely at their destinations.

The city has more than 30 trucks equipped with plows and salt spreaders. Drivers are urged to stay at least 200 feet away from the trucks while they're out treating the roads.
