The Oklahoma Sooners' women's basketball team has been hit hard by injuries so far this season but coach Sherri Coale made an announcement on Friday that will add depth once the Big 12 season gets underway.

Coale announced that two OU volleyball players were added to the women's basketball roster for the spring semester.

Tara Dunn, a 6-foot-2 redshirt freshman from Poth, Texas, and Eden Williams, a 5-3 redshirt sophomore from Amarillo, Texas, began practicing with OU's women's basketball team on Dec. 26. The OU women's basketball team previously had eight players on the active roster after four members suffered season- or career-ending injuries.

"We're very excited," Coale said. "Eden and Tara, both, are athletes at the University of Oklahoma -- they play on our volleyball team -- and are good friends with our players. They were both very good high school basketball players and willing to come out and help us."

The Sooners lost forwards Lyndsey Cloman (back) and Kaylon Williams (Achilles) in the preseason and guards Maddie Manning and Whitney Hand suffered ACL tears on Nov. 28 and Dec. 6, respectively.

"Tara and Eden are both extremely talented athletes and, more importantly, great team players," OU volleyball coach Santiago Restrepo said. "I hope that both of their contributions will be great for Sherri Coale and Oklahoma women's basketball."

Dunn earned all-district co-MVP honors in basketball as a senior and was a state all-tournament team member in 2010 when Poth reached the class 2A finals. Williams was a multi-sport star in high school, earning everything from state tournament MVP honors in volleyball to pole vault titles in track and field.

"Their approach to everything has been awesome and that is a reflection, I think, too, of Santiago," Coale said. "The fact that he is willing to allow his athletes to do that. That's a pretty big thing. We recruit all over the country and sign a limited number of players, and then to give them up for a couple of months to go and do something else, I think, speaks volumes about his character. We could not appreciate him more."
