The Oklahoma Department of Transportation is about to begin making major improvements to one of the most notorious intersections in the Tulsa area.

ODOT will begin constructing an overpass for 116th Street North at the Highway 75 junction on Monday, January 14, 2013.

According to a news release from ODOT, starting at 7 a.m. Monday, crews from Sherwood Construction will begin closing all lanes of east and westbound 116th Street North at the intersection.

ODOT says the closure should last throughout the nine-month project, which will cost $7 million.

The intersection has been the scene of numerous crashes over the years, including fatalities.

ODOT says it doesn't plan to close Highway 75 during the construction, but there will be lane restrictions and it asks drivers to be alert to crews working in the area.

Speed limits will also be reduced through the workzone.
