Some Tulsa students got a lesson in being prepared for disaster Tuesday.

Third graders at Sequoyah Elementary took part in the "Save the Children Resilient and Ready Workshops."

Tulsa Partners, Inc. sponsors the workshops, where they use stories and games to teach children about evacuations and creating a safety plan.

Organizers say the message goes beyond the classroom.

"Many times, people will listen to their children about these things more than they might to someone, some talking head on television, or some expert coming in and telling them the things they need to do," said Tim Lovell, of Tulsa Partners, Inc.

More than 3,500 students have already been through the training.
