Wednesday Morning Update

Posted: Updated:

Sunny conditions early will give way to some clouds later today with highs in the mid 40s.

I'll keep the morning discussion brief.

We're in between systems today meaning we'll be in the sunshine until this afternoon with highs in the mid or upper 40s. A weak surface boundary will approach the area this afternoon bringing some cloud cover back to northeastern OK .  An upper level trough that has been to our west this week is moving eastward forming a quasi- closed low scooting across central Texas late Wednesday evening into Thursday morning.  Our moisture content is expected to remain very low and no precip will be expected in our area.  A few snow showers may be possible across Northeast TX, but even that will be a stretch.  As the upper level system passes to the east Thursday afternoon, this will signal the potential for a mild warm up Friday with highs in the mid-50s.  A moderate warm up is likely Saturday with highs in the upper 50s to near 60, but the warm up will not last long.

The next cold front will arrive Sunday but the real deal shot of arctic air will slide across the area Sunday night into Monday morning.  Data indicates a significant surface ridge of high pressure will build across the central plains bringing another dry and cold air mass to the area for Monday and Tuesday.   As the cold air surges across the state Sunday night or early Monday morning, there may be some snow flurries, but no significant precipitation is expected.  The cold air will not last long as another moderate warming trend will begin by the middle of next week.

The potential for any big weather maker, other than cold air, will not be in the forecast for the next 10 days.

The high yesterday in Tulsa was 35 at 5:06pm.

Our daily normal high is 48 and the low is 27.

Daily records include a high of 78 from 1938

and the low of 1 from 1930.
