New U.S. Congressman Markwayne Mullin has received death threats against him and his family, according to a news release by Karl Ahlgren, Mullin's chief of staff.

Federal law enforcement considers the threats to be a "serious matter due to the content and nature of the threatening letters which were received," Ahlgren said.

The FBI told News On 6 they are investigating the threats but have no comments at this time.

Mullin won his first-ever political campaign for Oklahoma District 2's congressional seat on November 6, 2012. He and his wife have two sons and a daughter.
