Taleya Mayberry finished with her second career double-double, while Kelsee Grovey and Kadan Brady also netted double digit points, but it wasn't enough as Tulsa dropped a 69-63 decision to East Carolina on Sunday afternoon. TU fell to 6-11 on the season and 1-3 in Conference USA, while ECU moved to 12-5 overall and 2-2 in the league.

"Basketball is a game of inches, a rebound here and a missed shot there," Head Coach Matilda Mossman said. "Statistically both teams shot the ball well from the floor, both teams shot from the line well, both teams missed opportunities from three-point range, rebounding was pretty even, so it comes down to turnovers and offensive rebounds, but they just beat us. I don't think it was anything we didn't do, they just beat us."

Mayberry had 14 points, a career-high 10 rebounds, and five assists in 32 minutes of play. Brady tallied a team-best 16 points and three steals, while Grovey added 10 points. Tiffani Couisnard and Loren McDaniel each scored eight, and Couisnard pulled down nine rebounds.

TU shot 48 percent from the field, 26 percent from behind the arc and 73 percent from the charity stripe. The Golden Hurricane had 34 points in the paint, but just four second-chance points.

ECU had a 33-31 edge in rebounds, an 11-6 advantage in steals and had just 11 turnovers to TU's 18.

With seven lead changes and eight tied scores, the first 20 minutes were tightly contested. Neither team led by more than two baskets and Mariah Turner hit a long three-pointer to end the first frame with a 35-34 lead by the Pirates. Mayberry had a team-high nine points and eight rebounds, just one board shy of her personal best, at the half.

TU pulled ahead to a five-point lead with 16:59 on the clock in the second half, but was held without a field goal for 6:50 off the clock. TU scored on three free throws while the Pirates had four two-point baskets to tie the game at 47-all. Both teams traded baskets as there was one tied scores and seven lead changes in the final 7:30 minutes of the contest for a total of 11 tied scores and 14 lead changes in the contest.

The Pirates were led by Celeste Stewart and Kristine Mial with 14 points apiece, while Whitny Edwards pulled down eight rebounds and had three steals, and Britny Edwards had two blocks.

ECU shot 43 percent from the field, 27 percent from three-point range and 82 percent from the free throw line. The Pirates had 28 points in the paint, 24 points off the bench and 17 points off turnovers.

Tulsa will return to action on Thursday, January 24th against UCF. Game time is set for 7:00 pm at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
