GLENPOOL, Oklahoma -

Glenpool police on Thursday released a sketch of a man they say sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl on Jan. 8.

Officials said a man driving a white four-door sport utility vehicle picked up the girl as she was walking home from school, took her to several locations and sexually assaulted her, then dropped her off at her home a couple of hours later.

It was reported to police that evening.

It appears to be a quiet suburban neighborhood, but two weeks ago that sense of security was rattled.

"I can't believe it," Glenpool resident Daniel Tidwell said. "You never believe that it's just right here. You never believe when it's right there on you."

Officers say the man took the girl against her will to a possible construction site where he raped her.

Police say the man then took the young girl to another location before taking her home.

"We've checked video cameras up and down the streets, trying to get any information we can get," GPD Chief Dennis Waller said. "Dealing with a kid, it bothers everybody. We all got kids and we want to see this solved."

And police aren't the only ones who want this case solved.

Neighbors who live near the area where the girl was abducted are fearful.

"It kind of catches me by surprise that it happened right here in front of my door, but it doesn't surprise me cause there's crime everywhere, but it is scar," Tidwell said.

Kids are often seen walking in the neighborhood since it's a few blocks away from Glenpool schools. Waller said the department has beefed up patrols in the area.

Police sent evidence they collected to the state's crime lab to be analyzed by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.

The man is described as a biracial American Indian, 6-foot, 210 pounds with a large stomach, light brown hair, a gray mustache and chin whiskers.

If you have any information about this crime, call GPD at 918-322-8110.
