A Tulsa man charged with wounding a sheriff's deputy and a bystander in a shooting on the Tulsa County courthouse plaza in 2012 has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

Andrew Dennehy, 24, was in court Wednesday, charged with two counts of shooting with intent to kill, possession of a firearm after delinquent adjudication and reckless conduct with a firearm.

His family and attorney say he's a paranoid schizophrenic plagued by bizarre thoughts and delusions. Prosecutors say he's bluffing and understands the charges against him.

Prosecutors allege Dennehy wandered barefoot onto the plaza between the Tulsa County courthouse and Tulsa Central Library on March 7, 2012, and fired a handgun -- sending people fleeing and injuring a deputy and bystander.

Dennehy was wounded when deputies returned fire.

The court set an October 7th jury trial date. He remains in the Tulsa County jail with no bond.
