TULSA, Oklahoma -

A big change for Tulsa residents when it comes to collection of yard waste. Starting Friday, homeowners will now pay for special stickers to be attached to their yard waste if they want it hauled away.

The City of Tulsa gave homeowners 3 free months of that service, but that has now ended.

The bill for hauling away yard waste won't come in the mail. In order to get green waste picked up, Tulsa says you have to go to your local QuikTrip and purchase a special yellow-colored sticker which you will attach to clear plastic bags of yard waste.

Yard waste includes lawn trimmings, weeds, branches and other similar types of waste.

According to Tulsa on their web site, beginning February 1, all yard waste, to include organic or garden material such as leaves, grass, plants, branches and hedge trimmings, that doesn't fit inside of a city-issued refuse cart, will require a 'Green Waste' sticker to be applied to each bag or bundle. 'Green Waste' stickers are available for purchase at area QuikTrip locations and are sold in sheets of five yellow-colored stickers per sheet for $2.50 each.

"Remember any yard waste placed outside starting February that doesn't have a green waste sticker will not collected by city crew," said City of Tulsa spokesperson Liz Hunt.

There's still no charge for green waste placed inside your normal trash bin. The deadline for placing the green waste out for pickup is 6 a.m. on your collection day. Residents can still dispose of yard waste at no cost by taking the material to the City of Tulsa's Green Waste Facility located at 10401 East 56th Street North.

The site is open seven days a week from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., excluding city observed holidays. A current driver's license with a Tulsa address is requested for admittance.

Residents can visit City of Tulsa's refuse web page for more information.
