Mild Weather Continues, Chances of Rain Later in the Week.

Posted: Updated:

As the map on the right shows, courtesy of the OK Mesonet, some folks did pick up at least some light rain overnight. There was even some thunder reported, but the system responsible for those showers is quickly moving on eastward. In fact, a weak front is moving across the state during the day today, shifting our winds back to a northerly direction. However, the air behind this boundary is not all that cool and with lots of sunshine, temperatures will still be well above normal with lower 60s expected this afternoon.

Clear skies and light winds will likely result in a frosty start to our day tomorrow with morning lows in the lower 30s. That will be followed by light southerly winds, lots of sunshine, and an afternoon high back into the 60s. Keep in mind that the normal daytime high at this time of year is about 50 just to keep these numbers in perspective.

Another weak boundary will arrive Tue night with light northerly winds and lows Wed morning into the 30s again. However, a more E to SE wind on Wednesday along with increasing cloud cover should keep temperatures from getting too much out of hand and afternoon highs in the mid 60s are expected.

Yet another front will arrive on Thu shifting our winds back to a northerly direction and this will also provide our next chance for showers and possibly some storms. Temperatures will still be above normal though and that will continue right on through the weekend. In fact, the weekend is shaping up to be rather unsettled with gusty southerly winds for Saturday and a stronger system aloft setting up to the west of us. That will provide another chance of showers/storms although we are being rather conservative at this time.

There are still some uncertainties regarding the location, strength, and timing of a stronger system aloft that will be dropping into the southern Rockies over the weekend. So far, the longer range guidance has been pretty consistent in this system producing some decent rainfall for our state. But, don't want to get your hopes up too high until we have better sampling over the next few days although the trends have certainly been promising so far.

Also, look for temperatures to be more seasonal for early that following week.

In the meantime, stay tuned and check back for updates.
