The Oklahoma State softball team opened its 2013 season by splitting a pair of games at the Red Desert Classic in St. George, Utah.

The Cowgirls needed an extra inning to defeat Weber State, 2-1, in the first game, but fell to Seattle, 3-2, in the second game.

Oklahoma State and Weber State battled to a 0-0 tie at the end of seven innings, but the Cowgirls erupted for two runs on three hits to take a 2-0 lead in the eighth inning. The Wildcats rallied for a run in the bottom of the frame, but were unable to complete the comeback.

Pitchers Kat Espinosa and Simone Freeman combined for a two hitter. Espinosa went five innings and Freeman went the final three, picking up the win.

The second game was the inverse of the first game, as OSU and Seattle scored all of the game's runs in the first three innings.

The Cowgirls return to the diamond tomorrow for two games. Game one against Colorado State will begin at 12:00 p.m. CT and game two against Utah Valley will start at 5:00 p.m. CT.
