NORMAN, Oklahoma -

The National Weather Service says 3 to 6 inches of snow are possible in parts of western Oklahoma as a winter storm moves through the state this week.

A winter storm watch is in place for several areas in western Oklahoma, including the cities of Alva, Elk City, Weatherford and Woodward. The weather service says a half-foot of snow is possible in the area, with the potential for higher amounts in the Panhandle.

Forecasters say the snow is expected to develop in western Oklahoma late Monday night and spread east Tuesday.

Meanwhile, News On 6 meteorologist Dick Faurot says the eastern half of the state won't see that much snow.

In his weather blog on NewsOn6.com, Faurot says lesser amounts of snow are forecast for the Tulsa area.

"As we get into the evening and overnight hours colder air aloft will be dropping closer to the surface which should result in a rain/snow mix," Faurot said. "Also, there will be a window of opportunity for a brief period of all snow before it comes to an end by early Wednesday morning."

The WARN Team meteorologist said it's not time to issue the emergency bread and milk warning yet!
