Oklahoma's Own: Heather Hope

Heather Hope

Heather Hope is an Atlanta native, who joined the News 9 team as a reporter in February 2013 and is happy to call the "Heartland" state of Oklahoma her home. Heather comes to News 9 from California, where she wrote, shot and edited stories for the NBC affiliate in Bakersfield.

During her time in Bakersfield, Heather covered an array of stories on crime, politics, animals and wildfires, including the recent high school shooting in Taft, California.

She previously worked as a multimedia journalist for AOL's Patch.com in Culver City, CA covering health and environment.

Heather holds a Master's degree in broadcast journalism from the Annenberg School at the University of Southern California. While at USC, she hosted a news radio show, produced short-form documentaries, and served as an anchor and reporter for Annenberg TV News.

Heather shot a documentary for her graduate thesis titled "The Black Church in LA" Dead or Alive?" where she profiled pastors and religious studies scholars about the state of one of the city's oldest institutions. The video was selected to be screened at the California African American Museum.

Heather wrote web stories for NBCLA.com and researched investigative stories as an intern at KNBC in Los Angeles.

Heather received her bachelor's degree in journalism and sociology from the "other OSU," The Ohio State University. That's where she reported for the school's Buckeye TV News, The Lantern newspaper, the university's BuckeyeBlogs site and OSUnity Magazine, of which she was featured on the cover.

In the Buckeye State, she served as a video journalist for NBC4 in Columbus, Ohio as an intern. One of her jobs was to cover the Jonas Brothers' first concert in Columbus where she spent 12 hours following them tour the city while she uploaded the video on the station's Web site.

Heather got a taste of international reporting while interning for CBS News in London. She has traveled around the world since the age of two to countries such as The Netherlands, China, Germany, Spain, France, Ireland, Wales, Scotland and Guam.

When Heather isn't chasing breaking news, she enjoys watching old black and white movies, color-coordinating her closet and playing the alto saxophone.

Heather likes covering stories about education, business and the arts.
