After extinguishing the flames at a house in Norman, firefighters discovered a body lying in the burned interior.

Norman police officers and firefighters arrived at the home in the 600 block of Villa Drive around 11 a.m. There wasn't much damage to the exterior of the house, but after firefighters put out the fire, they found the body lying near a bedroom.

Investigators don't know yet if the person died in the fire or from another cause.

Police have not released the victim's identity. Neighbors told News 9 a woman in her 70s lives in the home with her adult son, but it's not known if either one of them is the victim.

The deputy fire chief says investigators are waiting for the medical examiner's office to make a positive identification of the body.
