OKLAHOMA CITY -

Investigators are trying to figure out what happened during a deadly train accident in the metro early Saturday morning.

Police say a train collided with a car, killing two women inside. It happened before 3 a.m. Saturday at N.W. 92nd and Western.

"We can't really say if they tried to outrun the train or just wasn't aware of the flashing lights or the traffic arms that come down," said OKC Police Capt. Nate Tarver.

Police have identified the victims as 44-year-old Miayi Mathis and 61-year-old Loyce Adyemi.

According to the report, Mathis was eastbound on N.W. 92nd, with her mother, Adyemi, as her only passenger. Police say it appears Mathis disregarded the red flashing signal just west of western at the tracks, and drove into the path of a southbound train. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

At least five intersections were blocked off for a couple of hours.
