The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a teen's alleged shooting of a pit bull went viral on Facebook. Caisen Green and his family have received threats after the young man apparently posted a photo of a dog he shot with a bow and arrow, according to Undersheriff Jason Chennault.

Chennault told News On 6 that they have not confirmed that the teen posted the photo on his Facebook page. The photo has since been removed from the site.

"All we know is that there was a dog shot and there's been an uproar caused," he said.

Green is believed to have posted a photo of a dead gray and white pit bull with an arrow jutting from a wound in the dog's side. The screen grab apparently taken from the teen's cell phone also states: "For all you Pit lovers out there. Here's what happens when one shows up around my house."

The Sheriff's Office has received calls about the incident "from not only concerned people in Cherokee County and the State of Oklahoma but all across the United States and several foreign countries," Chennault said in a news release.

In addition to Green's posting, a Facebook page was created documenting the killing and demanding an investigation into the incident.

"On this second Facebook page, posters have threatened to do bodily harm to Green and his family," Chennault states.

The Sheriff's Office is investigating the fatal shooting of the animal, Chennault said. Green was not immediately available for an interview, he said, but the results of the investigation will be brought to the district attorney.

In the meantime, Chennault asked animals lovers to stop making threats against Green and his family.

"Our main concern at this point is his safety," Chennault told News On 6.

The Sheriff's Office does not want to release any other information that may put the teen any further at risk, he said.

"Those threats will also be investigated, and the people making the threats may be subject to prosecution," he said.
