The No. 12-ranked Rogers State women's basketball team came up short on Saturday afternoon as Wayland Baptist registered a 65-59 win over the Hillcats at the Claremore Expo.

The Hillcats were forced to play shorthanded as medical reasons limited starters Logan Froese and Sierra Cornwell who played eight minutes combined.

The Hillcats clung to a single digit lead for much of the opening frame and took their largest lead of nine with eight minutes to play in the half. The lead quickly dwindled as the Flying Queens used a 13-1 run to take a three-point lead with less than three minutes to play in the half. Ariani Silva made two sets of free throws to end the stanza and give the Cats a narrow 26-25 advantage.

The score was knotted three times in the second half before WBU created separation with a 6-0 run to take a 49-43 lead with five minutes to play. The Flying Queens led the rest of the way. RSU chipped away at the deficit, trailing by three points with one minute remaining but couldn't convert the tying shot and were forced to foul. WBU made seven of their eight free throws in the final minute of the game. RSU made three-pointers in consecutive trips in the final minute but the Flying Queens executed at the charity stripe putting the game out of reach for the Hillcats.

Smith led the Hillcats with 19 points while Silva and Clarissa Cannon tallied 12 points apiece.

Angeleigh Davis led WBU with 19 points. The Flying Queens won the battle on the boards 48-39.

Rogers State (21-7, 11-3) returns to action on Thursday as the Hillcats travel to Shawnee, Okla. to take on St. Gregory's at 6 p.m.
