No. 2 OCU Cruises To Big Win Over Cavs

Oklahoma City University had two players with double-doubles and five in double figures in a 102-54 drubbing of St. Gregory's Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena. The No. 2 Stars were led by Lauren Gober, who finished with a game-high 27 points and 11 rebounds. Katie Hall had 20 points and 15 boards for OCU, which extended its winning streak to 21 games overall and 43 straight against NAIA competition.

It was the most points given up by an SGU team since the 2006-07 season and the worst lost since Jan. 24, when the Stars beat the Cavs by 51 in Shawnee.

Leticia Silva scored a team-high 23 points on 7 of 17 shooting for SGU. Freshman Ayrionna Taylor had 12 points, five boards and three assists for the Cavs.

OCU held SGU to only 33 percent from the field, including 5 of 26 from three-point range. The Cavs' 32 turnovers was their second-highest total this season. The Stars shot 45 percent for the game and out-rebounded SGU 56-33.

OCU hit nine field goals in the game's first six minutes and raced out to a 23-5 lead. Silva scored five points during a 7-2 Cavs spurt over the next two minutes, cutting the deficit to 13 with 11:42 left in the half. But the Stars closed the period on a 28-16 run and enjoyed a 53-28 advantage at the break.

OCU shot 50 percent in the first half compared to only 35 percent for SGU. Silva tied for game-high honors with 15 points in the first 20 minutes.

The Stars scored 14 of the second half's first 20 points, and the lead grew to 67-34 with 13:26 remaining. It was 75-42 with just more than 10 minutes to play when the home team when on another run - this time 10-2 - and the lead ballooned to 41 at the 7:49 mark. SGU got no closer than 36 the rest of the way.

SGU returns to the court Wednesday at home against Rogers State. That game is scheduled for 6 p.m.
