The Oklahoma State softball team opened up play at the 2013 Cathedral City Classic Thursday afternoon, falling to No. 5 Florida 2-0 before defeating BYU 3-2 in the nightcap.

Oklahoma State gave the Gators all they could handle in the first game, battling to a scoreless tie through five innings.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Gators finally broke through, scoring a pair of runs on two hits. Florida had the bases loaded with one out, but managed to just score the two runs thanks to a wild sequence that saw Bailey Castro thrown out at the plate trying to score from first. However, an OSU error allowed the runner on second, Stephanie Tofft, to score.

In the win over BYU, Tarah Ettinger hit a home run in the bottom of the first and starter Simone Freeman went four innings, allowing just one run on three hits, striking out five.

The Cowgirls (6-5) return to action tomorrow night when they take on No. 22 Stanford at 10:30 p.m. CT.
