SWOSU Rodeo Teams Finish 2nd At K-State

The Southwestern Oklahoma State University rodeo teams opened the 2013 spring season at the Kansas State Rodeo last weekend in Manhattan, Kan. Both the men's and women's teams for SWOSU finished second in the event.

The SWOSU women scored 191 points, finishing behind Pratt CC who won the rodeo with 261.5 points. Cati Stanko finished second in the all-around for SWOSU with 141.00 points after finishing second in goat tying (6.1 seconds) and seventh in breakaway roping (3.1 seconds). Other top placers for the women included Ceri McCaffery finishing sixth in the barrel racing with a time of 13.02 seconds and Dusta Kimzey taking home fourth in the goat tying with a time of 6.5 seconds.

On the men's side, SWOSU scored 390.0 points to take second place behind Fort Scott CC at 479.0 points. Top finishers for the Bulldogs included Yance Day with a second place split in bareback riding with a score of 70.0 and Brodie Poppino taking a split of third in tie down roping in a time of 9.1 seconds. SWOSU had two high finishers in bull riding, with Jeremy Barnhill placing second with a score of 73.0 and Lane Wilhelm not far behind in fourth with a score of 71.0.

The SWOSU rodeo teams will be back in action this weekend (March 1-3) at the Garden City CC Rodeo in Garden City, Kan.
