CATOOSA, Oklahoma -

An explosion at a Catoosa metal recycling plant could be heard in East Tulsa about midnight on Wednesday.

The boom originated from CMC Recycling, near North 166th East Avenue and East Pine Street.

No injuries were reported.

The company released a statement about 9:30 a.m., which said the explosion happened after "a small propane tank was inadvertently processed."

"Just before midnight on February 27th, during normal processing of shreddable scrap material, a small propane tank was inadvertently processed. The mill is designed to withstand these types of events and is equipped with a fire suppression system. All employees are safe and no equipment was damaged. Normal operations have continued since the event occurred. CMC Recycling is dedicated to processing metals in a safe, efficient, and environmentally friendly manner. We will review our procedures for screening incoming material and are committed to mitigating these types of incidents in the future."
