Southwestern Oklahoma State University split a pair of shutouts on Friday against East Central, winning 3-0 in the first game before dropping game two 9-0 in five innings. The Bulldogs are now 6-12 on the year and 2-4 in Great American Conference play.

SWOSU 3, East Central 0

Julianne Martinez threw a complete-game shutout in the first game to help SWOSU to the 3-0 victory. The Bulldogs pushed all three of their runs across in the first inning on a two-run single from Kendall Smith and an RBI single from Summer Blackowl.

From there, Martinez shut down the Tigers, holding them to just three hits and working around a bases-loaded jam in the second inning. The pitching performance was much needed for SWOSU, who did not record a hit in the game after the first inning.

Martinez picked up the victory, improving to 5-5 on the year.

East Central 9, SWOSU 0 (5 inn.)

The SWOSU offense remained stagnant in the second game and East Central put up runs in each of the first four innings on their way to the run-rule victory. Martinez again got the start for SWOSU, but she was pulled in the second inning after giving up five runs on four hits.

The SWOSU defense also committed two crucial errors which led to five unearned runs for East Central. SWOSU was limited to five hits in the contest and they stranded eight runners on base. Whitney Porter relieved Martinez in the second inning and pitched the final 3.1 innings, allowing four runs, just one earned, on five hits.

Martinez took the loss, falling to 5-6 on the year.

SWOSU and East Central will complete the series with a doubleheader on Saturday, starting at noon.
