SE Baseball Takes Series Finale Vs. HU, 11-4

DURANT, Oklahoma -

Travis Caraway drove in six runs on three hits including a grand slam as Southeastern picked up an 11-4 win in the rubber match of a three game series against Harding on Sunday afternoon at The Ballpark in Durant.

The win moved the Savage Storm to 9-7 overall and 4-5 in Great American Conference play.

The win also earned SE its first series win in league play this season.

Southeastern will be back in action March 8-9 when it travels to Russellville, Ark., for a three-game series against Arkansas Tech with a single game slated for 7 p.m. on the 8th and a twinbill at 1 p.m. on the 9th.

Caraway was one of three Storm hitters to post three-hit outings as SE racked up 13 hits on the afternoon.

Caraway finished 3-for-5 with a double and the grand slam with his six RBI.

Troy McCartney posted a 3-for-4 day with three RBI, three runs scored and two stolen bases, while Tucker Alexander was 3-for-5 in the cleanup spot, but did so with an infield hit and two bunt singles.

Evan Ramsey turned in two hits and scored a pair of runs, while Trevor Bowen and Chevis Springer each had a hit and an RBI.

Ryan Salter reached base on a pair of walks and a pair of errors and made the most of his time on the base paths with four stolen bases and a pair of runs scored.

David Cagle got the start and picked up his second win of the week after allowing four runs on five hits with a pair of strikeouts in five innings of work.

Eddie Cervantes took over to start the sixth inning and tossed 2.2 innings, allowing three hits and striking out one before giving the ball to Cameron Mann who retired the final four outs in order to pick up his fifth save of the season.

SE got on the board in the bottom of the second inning as McCartney singled and stole second before scoring on a Caraway single to right for a 1-0 lead.

The Bison's would answer with a run in the top of the third to tie the game at 1-1.

Salter opened the bottom half of the inning by reaching on an error and stealing second. Ramsey followed with a walk and Alexander loaded the bases with a bunt single.

McCartney put SE back in front with an RBI single through the right side.

He was followed up by Caraway who pushed the Storm lead to 6-1 with a grand slam over the right field wall.

HU would get two runs back in the top of the fifth, but Cagle would work out of trouble to finish the inning.

Southeastern would put runners on in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings, but could not find the hits to extend its lead.

Meanwhile, Cervantes kept the Harding hitters in line, allowing just one baserunner over the sixth and seventh innings before back-to-back single pushed head coach Mike Metheny to move to the closer with two outs in the eighth.

Mann would force a groundout on his second pitch in the game and SE would get out of trouble without giving up a run.

Salter then opened the eighth inning by again reaching on an error and stealing second.

Ramsey followed by getting hit by a pitch.

Salter then swiped third as Alexander went down swinging for the first out of the inning, but Aaron Chalk followed up with a walk to load the bases.

A McCartney single down the leftfield line would evade a diving defender and allow a pair of runs to score, stretching the SE lead to 8-4.

Caraway followed with a double down the right field line that plated Chalk and made the score 9-4.

Bowen would then plate McCartney with a sac fly and after Josh Smith was hit by a pitch, Springer would bring home the final run with a single through the left side that scored Caraway and made the score 11-4.
