Oklahoma Senator Suggests USDA Cancel Conferences During Sequestration

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON -

Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn says he's found another way to help trim some spending.

He sent a letter to the USDA Secretary calling on the agency to cancel two upcoming conferences.

Senator Coburn said the conferences are set to feature guest chefs and wines for employees.

He said, "While these conferences may be fun, interesting and even educational getaways for department employees, food inspecting rather than food tasting should be USDA's priority at this time."

This is the sixth letter Senator Coburn has submitted about how he believes different agency leaders can prioritize spending during sequestration.
