SAND SPRINGS, Oklahoma -

Just a week after the world's best anglers tried to catch the big one at Grand Lake, a Sand Springs man did just that. Billy Lemon caught a big bass in a tournament on Grand over the weekend.

He thought it was 9 or 10 pounds - turns out it was 12 pounds, 3 ounces. That sets a new Grand Lake record.

Lemon was using a Gene Larew Sweet Swimmer on an Alabama rig - which anglers in the Bassmaster Classic weren't allowed to use.

"If they'd been able to use that lure in the Classic, there is no doubt in my mind that there would have been 25-30 pound stringers each day. No doubt," said Billy Lemon, Grand Lake record holder.

Billy says he fishes three days a week and hopes to eventually join the professionals. And he says that fish was released back into the water after it was certified as the new record-holder.
