OU Downs UCLA

The No. 10-ranked University of Oklahoma baseball team put an end to a two-game losing skid by blanking No. 12-ranked UCLA, 4-0, Saturday at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

The Sooners (12-3) posted their first shutout since blanking Baylor, 1-0, in 10 innings on May 12, 2012.

Junior right-handed starting pitcher Jonathan Gray put together a masterful performance on the mound for OU, fanning a season-high eight over seven scoreless frames to improve to 3-1 on the season. Freshman southpaw Jacob Evans and junior lefty Billy Waltrip each tossed a shutout frame in relief of Gray.

Six Sooners tallied hits in the victory. Junior infielder Matt Oberste led the way, blasting a three-run home run over the right field wall in the top of the third inning. The round tripper was Oberste's team-leading fifth of the season. He has now hit safely in 18 consecutive games dating back to the 2012 season and has tallied seven multi-RBI games this season.

Oklahoma looks to close out its weekend in Los Angeles with a second straight win Sunday as it battles No. 22-ranked Notre Dame at Jackie Robinson Stadium. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m.

OSU Falls To Loyola Marymount

Oklahoma State fell behind early and could not complete a comeback against Loyola Marymount as the 26th-ranked Cowboys dropped a 5-2 decision Saturday at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.

The loss was just the second at home this season for the Cowboys as they fell to 11-3, while LMU improved to 6-9. The two teams will battle in the rubber match of the series Sunday at noon, with OSU looking to win its fourth-straight weekend series.

"Our kids didn't quit," said OSU head coach Josh Holliday. "They put two great swings on the ball to cut the lead in half in the seventh and then fought to load the bases in the eighth and put ourselves in a position to win the ballgame. That's all you can ever ask for, to be in it until the end."

ORU Falls To Dallas Baptist

Nate Goro and Tyler Boss had a solid afternoon at the plate, but it wasn't enough as the Oral Roberts baseball team fell for the second straight contest to Dallas Baptist, 8-3.

Goro finished the afternoon with three hits, while Boss added a pair of hits and drove in Graham McIntyre with a bases loaded infield single in the bottom of the ninth.

All but one starting position player for the Golden Eagles recorded a hit in the loss. Chris Williams picked up a couple of singles and Logan Domenico and Brandy Healy singling as well.

ORU (5-8) looks to salvage the series against DBU (7-8) on Sunday afternoon at J.L. Johnson Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
