My 2 Cents: Wrong-Way Shot Reactions

I have to admit, I'm not quite sure what to make of the reaction to the "wrong way shot" in last weekend's State High School Basketball tournament.

If you haven't heard, Hugo's Trey Johnson, only had to catch the ball and hold it for his team to beat powerhouse Millwood by one point, and advance to the Semis.

Instead, he took the inbounds pass and dashed toward the wrong goal scoring for the other team, his team went home devastated.

Now, as a former player, and as the father of basketballers, when I heard it I was sick for the kid, and I tweeted that anyone who knows Trey Johnson encourage him.

But I have to admit I've been somewhat surprised by the outpouring of sympathy for the high school junior.

A former pro player with a somewhat similar on court gaffe called to encourage him I get that, the Thunder even invited him to sit courtside at Sunday's game against the Celtics which he did.

And Durant and Westbrook gave him autographed shoes, that seemed over the top.

This wouldn't have happened 25 years ago, the kid would have suffered in silence, not that that's right.

But watching all of this.. I'm left wondering if all of this attention isn't actually making it worse for him..
