OKLAHOMA CITY -

The Oklahoma House approves a bill to give school teachers the right to arm themselves in class.

The Special Reserve School Resource Officer Act passed the House late Tuesday on a 68-23 vote.

The measure would give school districts the option to allow teachers to have guns in class. The districts would each have to pay for the 120-hours of training for teachers.

The bill is opposed by many teachers and education officials, who have raised safety and liability concerns over bringing firearms into schools.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
