Tulsa's Street School is taking its science classroom outside.
Students are teaming up with the U.S. Naval Academy and the Tulsa Alliance for Engineering to build four raised garden beds in front of the school.
The construction project will help teach the kids how engineering plays a role in day-to-day life, and they'll also learn some of the economic benefits of gardening.
Teachers say the project teaches several lessons and empowers students to create.
"I think most people feel like a kid when they start turning dirt, but I'm most excited for them to taste something right out of the ground," said science teacher Julie Moeller.
And all the tasty vegetables the students will grow help reinforce Street School's health and wellness initiatives.
