Arrest Made After Man Found Shot To Death In Tulsa Driveway

Tulsa Police responded to a shooting death in the 700 block of North 23rd West Avenue about 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Investigators have identified the victim as Alonzo Stewart, 45.

Reginald Ward, 23, was taken into custody after his father convinced him to turn himself in, investigators said.

There was an ongoing feud between Stewart and Ward, which led to the fatal shooting, according to police.

Isaac Robinson lives behind Stewart's house, and says he was eating lunch with his wife when he heard the sound of gun shots.

"We heard like seven or eight gunshots, and we just got on the ground," Robinson said.

James Petties lives nearby and said he spoke with one of the victim's neighbors.

"He knew it was just a matter of time before something like that was going to happen, because they have a lot of trouble at that house," Petties said.

Petties said the neighbor he spoke with witnessed the shooting.

He said it happened next door to Stewart's home, and Ward and Stewart had been arguing in the driveway.

"When they shot the guy, they had stood there for a minute or two before they got in their car and they left," Petties said.

Stewart's stepmother Janette said Stewart went by Snoop, and in the last six months she had really seen

"He was just more real light spoken, and a lot nicer of a person," Janette Stewart said. "He said something about changing his life, the people he hung around and the things that he did."

Janette Stewart said her stepson left behind multiple children. She said he had been staying at a house with his mother, who was later taken away in an ambulance after learning of her son's death.

"That's her baby, and I'm sure she's taking it pretty hard," Janette Stewart said. "I couldn't image how she's taking it."

Police have commended Ward's father for "gaining control of the situation and convincing Mr. Ward to do the right thing. The focus of this investigation was on Mr. Ward immediately" and his father's assistance allowed for the quick arrest, TPD Sgt. Dave Walker said in a news release.

Ward has pending cases for felonies in Tulsa County. He is accused in separate 2012 incidents of taking merchandise from a pawn shop, being in possession of an SKS rifle after juvenile adjudication. He pleaded guilty in 2008 to false impersonation and being in possession of a firearm after juvenile adjudication.
