POTTAWATOMIE COUNTY, Oklahoma -

The mother of one of the Pottawatomie County teens found shot to death in Texas breaks her silence.

The body of Dillian King was found Wednesday, following a botched home invasion. King and Kenneth Chaffin took off from Bethel Acres earlier this week with an arsenal of stolen weapons.

They tried to break into a home in north Texas, exchanged gunfire with the homeowner, but investigators say it appears the teens took their own lives. Now, a grieving mother has more questions than answers.

Karen Jones is a mother heartbroken and in disbelief. She admits her son, 18-year-old Dillian King, has gotten in trouble over the years.

"He got tatted with a gang sign. I don't know what all he did there because he ran away," Jones said.

But she says he was trying to turn his life around. He'd gotten his GED, and on Monday, she gave Dillian a ride to a job interview.

"I told him, ‘Good luck, I love you,'" Jones said.

That's the last time she saw her son. Dillian took off with his friend, 17-year-old Kenneth Chaffin. Monday night, police say Chaffin stole his parents' truck, nine handguns, six rifles and up to 2,000 rounds of ammunition.

Wednesday, outside a home in Ellis County, Texas, investigators found the truck and the bodies of King and Chaffin. The homeowners said the teens were trying to break in, one dressed in camouflage with a gun strapped to his back.

"He's never hurt anybody, not even animals. That's why I don't understand," Jones said.

After an exchange of gunfire, investigators say the teens shot and killed themselves.

"I think they realized what they were doing," Jones said.

Dillian's mother is left to wonder about the life that could have been for her son.

"He always hugged my neck," Jones said. "And he loved to fish. He seemed so free when he was out at the lake."

Dillian's mother said they own several guns, but nothing from their home was stolen. The parents of both teens say they have no idea what led the two to Ellis County, Texas.

News 9 is told the Texas homeowner was hit with a bullet and is recovering right now from minor injuries.
