It was a historic afternoon for the Oral Roberts baseball team as they knocked off No. 23 Central Arkansas, 8-1, to win its first ever Southland Conference game. The victory also snapped an 11-game losing skid for the Golden Eagles.

The Golden Eagles (6-15, 1-0) and Bears (18-4, 0-1) go at it against on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m., weather permitting.

With scouts in the stands, Alex Gonzalez had a solid afternoon on the bump for the Golden Eagles, going eight full innings, fanning eight UCA batters and allowing just one run in the eighth inning. Taylor Tryon entered the game and pitched a perfect ninth with a strikeout.

It was the third straight ball game the Golden Eagles plated eight runs, doing so with the help of Austen Colt. The Owasso native picked up a pair of doubles, the first Golden Eagles to achieve the feat this season, and drove in three runs. He also scored once.

After missing the four previous games, Jose Trevino also had two hits and scored twice, including the first run of the game. Trevino drew a leadoff walk, took second on a while pitch and moved to third on a fly out to left off the bat of Boss. Matt Brandy then grounded out to short, allowing Trevino to score.

Colt picked up his first double of the game in the third, but was ultimately stranded when the inning came to an end. However, in the fifth inning, Colt doubled over the center fielder's head to score both Chris Williams and Kevin Cho, who was standing at first.

Williams had previously reached on a fielder's choice and Cho drew a walk. Cho scored twice in the game.

Following the top of the eighth when the Bears got their lone run of the game on a bases loaded walk, the Golden Eagles put five on the board on just two hits.

Logan Domenico started the inning with a walk, taking third as Trevino followed him with a double off the wall in left. Tyler Boss stepped in and delivered his second single of the game, driving in Domenico to make the game, 4-1.

It looked to be all the damage that would be done as the UCA pitcher, Griffin Glaud, set the next two Golden Eagles down swinging.

Fortunately, the inning continued as Cho drew a two-out walk to load the bases, which was followed by a Colt walked that pushed in his third RBI of the game.

After a pitching change, the Golden Eagles added their sixth run of the game on a wild pitch with Boss crossing the plate. The UCA struggles continued as Nate Goro grounded to third, but was safe on the play when the ball was thrown in the dirt, scoring both Cho and Colt.

Tryon set the Bears down in order to end the game.

Graham McIntyre and Cho both had singles in the game.

The Bears had just five hits in the contest, the second lowest hit total by an ORU opponent this season. Garrett Brown had two hits, Forrestt Allday added a double and Justin Treece and Ethan Harris each had singles.

Jonathan Davis had the lone RBI for the Bears, drawing a walk that pushed in Treece.
