The funeral service for former OU quarterback Steve Davis was held at the First Baptist Church in Tulsa. Davis, 60, was a passenger in a jet that crashed while attempting to land in South Bend, Indiana.

There were rows full of former OU players and even more members of the large family, surrounded by the many friends of Steve Davis. The stage was surrounded with the trappings of a football star, but most of the memories were of the family man with a strong faith.

Some of Steve Davis' biggest fans were his lifelong friends.

"Steve's priorities were always his faith and family and friends, and living what Jesus described as an abundant life. A lot of people talk about that, but Steve lived it," said Steve's friend Ross Robinson.

Most people know Davis as the football star from high school through two national championships at OU. The legend was created long before his son, Bo, was born

"He is a legend because he taught me how to be humble in victory and gracious in defeat," Bo said.

Steve was a pilot and his family describes flying as one of his many passions.

"And he said, 'By the way, I'm going to take a flight tomorrow--just up and back to Indy," said Steve's brother, Joe.

Steve's family said his faith developed early, and a highlight was an invitation to speak at a Billy Graham crusade.

"I began to do daily devotions, started taking scripture and a piece of paper, writing down what God was relating to my life personally," Steve Davis said, speaking at the crusade.

Steve was a popular speaker throughout his adult life, and is described as someone always ready to share his time and his beliefs, especially through the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

"Christ came not to be served, but to serve. That was Steve Davis. That's the Steve I'll remember," said Chuck Bowman, of FCA.

Davis was buried in a private ceremony.

Caves was the owner and believed to be the pilot of the airplane.

Two other passengers on the jet, Jim Rodgers and Christopher Evans, both of Tulsa, remain in a South Bend hospital.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
