St. Gregory's and Rogers State both relied on the long ball in a doubleheader split Thursday at the Diamond Sports Complex. The No. 7-ranked Hillcats hit three solo home runs en route to a 3-1 series-opening win before the No. 20 Cavaliers scored all of their runs via the long ball in a 4-1 victory in the nightcap.

All of the scoring in Game 1 came via solo shots. Two of RSU's first four batters of the contest hit home runs off SGU starter Devon Frazier. Frazier, who entered the game having given up only two long balls on the season, surrendered only four hits the rest of the way to keep the Cavs in it.

SGU couldn't quite solve Hillcat starter Laura Fleck, though, as Tara Nall's solo home run in the seventh was all the scoring the visitors could push across. Nall led the Cavs offensively, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and her team's lone RBI.

Frazier lost for only the third time this season in 15 decisions. She gave up three runs on six hits and struck out one.

The solo home run parade continued into the nightcap as Danielle Bacon's first-inning bomb to right gave SGU a 1-0 lead. Two innings later, the visitors had runners at the corners when Caitlin O'Hagan hit her first home run of the season out to left to make it 4-0.

That was more than enough for Cavalier starter Sierra Gallego, whose lone blemish came in the seventh when RSU got a two-out RBI single. Gallego scattered six hits and struck out one in running her record to 8-2.

O'Hagan was 3-for-3 and Bacon went 2-for-4 to lead SGU offensively. Bacon has hit safely in five of her last six games.

SGU (24-7, 5-5 SAC) concludes its series with RSU Saturday in Shawnee. That doubleheader is slated for a noon start at the SGU Softball Complex.
