An F-16 fighter jet ran off the end of a runway at Tulsa International Airport.

Pictures from SkyNews 6 showed the single-seat jet sitting just off the end of the main east-west runway, with its nose landing gear and right main gear in the grass.

SkyNews 6 pilot Will Kavanagh says the plane got stuck in the mud and the challenge was to get it back onto the pavement without damaging it so it could be towed away.

The jet was landing at the time of the incident on runway 08.

TIA's main north-south runway is closed for reconstruction so most flights have been using the east-west runway.

The runway reopened just before noon.

The F-16 involved in the incident belongs to the 138th Fighter Wing of the Oklahoma Air National Guard.

Lt. Colonel Lindy White with Oklahoma National Guard Public Affairs says the plane sustained minimal damage and the pilot had no injuries.

They are still investigating what caused the jet to go off the end of the runway.

Pilots with the wing fly training missions from TIA regularly, sometimes making a trip to a bombing range in Kansas.
