Two women are behind bars, accused of stealing from vehicles and mailboxes across the metro.
According to Norman police, witnesses saw 29-year-old Savanna Ponce and 19-year-old Lauren Lee swipe a purse from a car at Steel Fitness, located at 1051 12th Avenue NE, on Thursday.
Officers located the suspect vehicle in a Wal-Mart parking lot. Inside the car, they find one woman going through a purse matching the description of the one stolen.
Police found the other suspect inside the store, who reportedly had the victim's driver's license and credit card.
Investigators then learned the suspects had property stolen from auto burglaries and mail thefts in Oklahoma City, Del City and the Village.
Ponce and Lee were arrested for numerous alleged crimes, including burglary, knowingly possessing/concealing stolen property, and other offenses, according to Norman police.
Norman police offered the following tips on how to avoid falling victim to burglary,
1. Do not leave valuables inside your car, unless you want them stolen.
2. Do not place out-going mail in your residential mail box.
3. Notify police immediately if you see suspicious activity—crime prevention is a team sport.
4. Criminals are highly mobile and have no knowledge of or regard for jurisdictional boundaries.
