Fowl Ball: RedHawks Clobber Redbirds In OKC

Posted: Updated:

The Oklahoma City RedHawks (6-5) recorded their first home win of the season in convincing fashion Monday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, shutting down the Memphis Redbirds (5-5) with an 11-0 win in front of a crowd of 2,895.

In his first start of the season, RedHawks pitcher Wes Musick (1-0) struck out five, walked one and allowed just two hits through five shutout innings to notch the win on the mound. He retired the final 11 batters he faced.

Pitcher Jarred Cosart entered the game in the sixth inning as the RedHawks "second starter," striking out three and allowing three hits in 3.2 innings. The two combined to retire 14-straight batters during the game.

Brandon Laird led the RedHawks with three hits. Marc Krauss recorded three RBI as Oklahoma City avoided a series sweep and ended a three-game losing skid.

Memphis won the series, 3-1, and was led by Brock Peterson's three hits Monday.

Oklahoma City's Jake Elmore extended his hitting streak to 10 games during his first at-bat of the night in the first inning. Elmore scored later in the inning on a single by Laird for the first lead of the game. Oklahoma City added two more runs in the inning with a Trevor Crowe single that scored Fernando Martinez and a Krauss single that scored Laird for a 3-0 edge.

Martinez, with Oklahoma City on a rehab assignment from the Astros, made a diving catch on a fly ball by Jamie Romak for the second out of the fourth inning.

After a double steal by the RedHawks, Jonathan Villar scored on a wild pitch. A sacrifice fly by Elmore scored Robbie Grossman for a 5-0 edge in the fourth inning.

Jimmy Paredes scored off a sacrifice fly by Krauss for a 6-0 edge in the fifth inning before the RedHawks added four runs in the sixth inning.

Villar posted the first triple of the season for Oklahoma City and later scored on a RBI ground out by Martinez for a 7-0 lead. Grossman scored on a passed ball. A two-run double from Paredes put the RedHawks ahead, 10-0. A Krauss sacrifice fly scored Paredes for the final run of the night.

Redbirds pitcher Nick Additon (0-1) was credited with the loss, allowing seven hits and five runs in 4.0 innings.

The RedHawks continue their eight-game homestand and open a four-game series with the Round Rock Express at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
